Izzy Thomson

Featured Painter and Visual Narrator

by Karunika Kardak

A graduate of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Izzy Thomson’s work not only tells stories of wild spaces but also of everyday life. Her unique and sombre style perfectly captures the wild and untethered landscapes that inspire her.

Here are some of our favourite examples of her work:

Currently undergoing a yearlong graduate residency at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh, Izzy’s new work is called ‘Rain Drinkers’. It will be exhibited at Phoenix Community Centre, Newton Dee in Aberdeen from 19 of June until 28 of July. These paintings engage with the themes of water and paint to provoke feelings of homeliness and familiarity. The combination of water and weather also acts as vehicle to bring the viewer back their wilder and more primitive home: nature. And indeed, ‘Rain Drinkers’, Izzy says, ‘will house the imagination and ignite an experience of the outside, inside’.

Now, haven't we all always wanted to enjoy those rainy Aberdonian evenings without actually getting our coats wet? You know where to head!
